Merciless Eviction and passing priority/responding

In a 4 player commander pod, during my turn I decided to cast Merciless Eviction choosing creatures. In order to not get blown out by a Counterspell, can I pass priority to wait for a response and after priority is passed I sac my creatures to say an Ashnod's Altar before ME is resolved? If not, is there a way I can save my creatures from getting exiled without getting blown up by a counterspell?

No.

Once all players pass priority in succession, the topmost object on the stack resolves. If you pass priority over Merciless Eviction and no other player responds, Merciless Eviction will resolve before you are able to do anything else.
