Mazirek, multiple sacrifices at the same time?

Asked by joeyb11223 8 years ago

Just a quick query still pretty new to things, Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest says whenever a player sacrifices a perm, is this for each one sacrificed, or each event involving the sacrifices?

For example Smallpox in a two player game would cause 4 permanents to be sacrificed (assuming both have a creature & land to sac). So does mazirek and co. get 4 x +1/+1 counters, or do they just get two as the Smallpox has caused one instance of sacrificing for each player.

Hopefully that makes sense haha.

Each time the trigger's condition is met, it is triggered and an instance put onto the stack. You are correct; Smallpox in a two player game would trigger Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest four times.

Note that Smallpox needs to resolve before the triggers are put onto the stack. If you sacrifice as part of the cost, as with Carrion, the triggers will resolve before the effect the cost was paid for resolve.

For the sake of being complete: you can tell when a card is going to trigger only once if multiple instances of the trigger condition happen simultaneously because it will say "or more".

Let's say you cast Tome Scour on yourself while you control Sidisi, Brood Tyrant and your opponent has a Profane Memento. If you put four creatures in the graveyard this way, they all go to the 'yard at the same time. Profane Memento will trigger four times, since its condition was met four times. Sidisi, Brood Tyrant, however, will only trigger once, since it says "whenever one or more creatures are put into your graveyard from anywhere..."
