Manifest a Living Lore?

Asked by Loreshadow 8 years ago

If ETB effects can't active from a manifested card turned face-up then does Living Lore die when turned face-up?

ETB abilities do not activate. ETB abilities are generally triggered abilities. Triggered abilities trigger. Living Lore, Clone, and some other cards have "As ~ enters the battlefield" abilities, which are static abilities that define replacement effects. These abilities neither trigger nor are activated.

If you manifest Living Lore, Clone, etc. and then turn it face up, it will be a 0/0 and die as a state-based action. Their static abilities can only apply if they exist at the time at which the source enters the battlefield. Because Living Lore entered the battlefield as a face-down 2/2 creature with no other characteristics, and because turning it face up does not cause it to reenter the battlefield, the replacement effect cannot apply and Living Lore will not exile an instant or sorcery card, which means that its P/T defaults to 0.
