Lifeline triggers

Asked by hynes81 9 years ago

I have a question about Lifeline triggers and Fleshbag Marauder. If I were to play Fleshbag Marauder while I have Lifeline on the battlefield with an addition creature would this create an infinite loop of sacrificing creatures? Do the cards entering the battlefield have to resolve before the end of turn step is complete? Would this result in another trigger for Lifeline as a result of everyone sacrificing a creature? Or does the turn end after the enter battlefield effect have resolved.

Thanks for the help

Ok the life line will trigger at the the beginning of the end step then the flesh bag will ETB causing you to sac it and life line says "return that creature to play at the beginning of the NEXT end step" so cause this end step has already started you would get the flesh bag back once at the end of every turn, there was a glorious 2-3 months when life line first came out where you could get that infinite loop but then they changed the rules to EOT only hapens once per turn

Cards put onto the battlefield from other zones don't resolve. Only spells and abilities resolve. But yes, spells and abilities have to resolve during the step or phase in which they were placed onto the stack.

What's happening here is that Lifeline's ability triggers for each creature that dies during the resolution of Fleshbag Marauder's ability. These abilities all create delayed triggered abilities that trigger at the beginning of the next end step. The DTAs each return one of the creatures from its owner's graveyard to the battlefield.

Remember, though, that these DTAs are all separate abilities. They resolve independently. Because you control all of them (you control Lifeline, so you control its ability and the DTAs it creates), you choose the order in which you place the DTAs onto the stack. Therefore, you control the order in which the creatures reenter the battlefield. You could choose to return Fleshbag Marauder before a certain creature in order to make a player sacrifice a different creature.

Either way, Fleshbag Marauder's ability triggers when Fleshbag Marauder enters the battlefield. The above process is then repeated; Lifeline's ability will trigger for each creature that dies during the second resolution of Fleshbag Marauder's ability. Each instance of this ability will create a DTA that will trigger at the beginning of the next end step. Because you are currently in an end step, the next end step will occur on the following turn. Therefore, the loop is not infinite. It just reiterates each turn.
