Legenday with diff controllers?

So opponent has Ruric Thar, the Unbowed , and I use Control Magic on it, taking 6. Then he casts ANOTHER Ruric Thar, the Unbowed , and he says mine dies since he casted another one. How dies this work???
I guess they got tired of everybody running Jace Beleren as a kill spell to let them play Jace, the Mind Sculptor

This is incorrect.
The current iteration of the legend rule allows each player to control one of any given legendary permanent. It only causes legendary permanents to die if one player controls multiple instances of the same legendary permanent.
Prior to the M14 rules change, the legend rule only permitted a single instance of any given legendary permanent to exist on the battlefield. If multiple instances of a legendary permanent were on the battlefield, then all of them were placed into their owner's graveyard as a state-based action.
