Lazav Dimir Mastermind in Commander?

If I have Lazav, Dimir Mastermind on the battlefield and I kill an opponent’s commander but they choose to put it back in the command zone, can I still copy it with Lazav, Dimir Mastermind ?

You cannot. Sending a commander to the command zone is a replacement effect. Since the commander is never put into a graveyard, Lazav cannot copy it.
