Kitchen Finks against Phyrexian Vatmother

Hi! If Kitchen Finks fight against a [Phyrexian Vatmother]], does his ability still trigger?
He'll have 4 -1/-1 counters when he dies so his ability doesn't trigger, right?

Correct. The persist ability doesn't care where the -1/-1 counters came from, only if they are on the creature. When Kitchen Finks is put into the graveyard with the -1/-1 counters on it, persist will check the last known information of it, see that it had -1/-1 counters on it, and not bring the Finks back.

Yes, that's correct. Instead of normal damage, the Vatmother puts -1/-1 counters on the Finks. The Finks will be a -1/-2, and die as a state-based action. Since he had some -1/-1 counters on him when he was last on the battlefield, his Persist ability will not trigger.
