Kalamax Infinite Combos

Asked by DemMeowsephs 3 years ago

So Kalamax, the Stormsire supposedly goes infinite with Fork cards, like Reverberate and Twincast. When Kalamax is tapped, you play another spell, and then play the fork. Because Kalamax is tapped, you can copy the fork. You then copy the fork targeting fork, and can do this infinitely.

What I don't get, is that Kalamax says you copy the FIRST instant spell. To actually use the fork you had to cast a spell before it, thus the fork wont end up being the first instant, so how can Kalamax copy it still? What am I missing.

Kalamax, the Stormsire triggers when you cast your first Instant. If you cast a Sorcery first and target that with Twincast, Kalamax will trigger for the Twincast.

Rhadamanthus but after Kalamax is tapped and I declare attackers I can't cast a sorcery right?

I suppose I could use spells with flash but are there any other ways anyone can come up with?

You can't cast a Sorcery during combat (at least not without help) but you can cast one during your post-combat main phase.

Ah! So I could go infinite just after combat that helps a LOT. Thanks!

Or you could tap him another way. Like using Springleaf Drum to make the mana to cast the spell.

A bit late, but there are a few other ways to do this. One is to set the loop with another copy effect (for example, Swarm Intelligence, Riku of Two Reflections, or Dualcaster Mage). Of course, it's not Kalamax copying the effect but it'll still put an arbitrary number of +1/+1 counters on it (and/or kill the table with Ral, Storm Conduit).

The second is trickier. You tap Kalamax . . . and then you wait. The moment your opponent casts an instant or sorcery, drop your copy spell and go infinite. It's not as splashy as doing it in combat, but there's something glorious about springing an infinite combo as a trap.
