Kaalia of the Vast + Master of Cruelties

Asked by onthestack 4 years ago

Did some reading on Gatherer and came across Kaalia of the Vast and Master of Cruelties . If Master of Cruelties ' ability triggers in the declare blockers step, would cards like Aurelia, the Warleader 's ability trigger for a second attack too?

No, these are not identical. Master triggers in the declare blockers, if no blockers are declared, similar to how you can only activate ninjutsu ( eg. Ninja of the Deep Hours ) after blockers are declared.

Aurelia needs to be declared as an attacker for her ability to trigger, which does not work favorably with the Kaalia trigger, since Kaalia puts the creature tapped and attacking.

From Aurelia's Gatherer:

If Aurelia is put onto the battlefield attacking, the triggered ability won’t trigger.
