Can I cast Illusions of Grandeur , gain my 20 life, then give control of it to my opponent via Zedruu the Greathearted and then destroy it via Dawn to Dusk causing my opponent to lose 20 life??

That is correct. A similiar combo was a very competitive deck in its time. It used Donate and illusions to pad its life total and then win.

Would it work if I returned it to my hands after giving them control instead of destroying it?
