Is infinite a legal number to use?

Asked by misterquack 9 years ago

Using an infinite mana combo, for instance Myr Galvanizer and Palladium Myr and I use the infinite colorless mana and 3 plains to use White Sun's Zenith , can i pay infinite for x?

You have to pick an actual number. Any time an infinite loop is created, that cannot be interrupted, the game becomes a draw.

Mind that Myr Galvanizer can't actually untap itself, as it says "untap each other myr you control." Though you could use two of them and it would work out fine to create as much mana as you wanted.

Correction, you would just be using them to put mana in your mana pool and then just untapping them. You could do that as much as you want though.

Yeah, I use 2 Myr Galvanizer and a Palladium Myr and an Alloy Myr and White Sun's Zenith and a War Report . But now I'll have to pick an actual number to use instead of infinite cats and infinite life. :P

That'll do it.

Technically speaking you have to do all the individual taps and untaps and activating each individual ability. You wouldn't want to die of dehydration before you launch your attack, I think? :P

You have to pick an actual number but you can pick an incomprehensibly large number such as a gogolplex or Grahm's number.

@billpasdmf: Actually, the rules allow for shortcuts through the execution of certain processes. For example, saying "I do [repeatable action] X times" is an acceptable shortcut past physically performing those actions, provided it's clear what the shortcut does.

This is only true when playing paper in person. If you have an infinite loop on MTGO, I believe that you have to go through all the motions.

Right, MtGO doesn't allow for shortcutting loops in the same way IRL Magic does.
