Iroas, God of Victory Vs Rubinia Soulsinger

Asked by Ravenking 8 years ago

I have Rubinia Soulsinger in play and I use it against my opponent's Iroas, God of Victory who was a creature until I gained control of him. Rubinia says, I keep control of target creature as long as she is in my control and she remains tapped. Since Iroas is no longer a creature, but an enchantment because I don't meet his devotion requirements, can I untap her to gain control of another creature and still keep Iroas?

No.

10/1/2009: Once the ability resolves, it doesn't care whether the targeted permanent remains a legal target for the ability, only that it's on the battlefield. The effect will continue to apply to it even if it gains shroud, stops being a creature, or would no longer be a legal target for any other reason.

Rubinia Soulsinger's activated ability defines a duration for which the control change effect applies. Once the ability resolves, the effect applies to whatever permanent was the target of that ability, even if the permanent is no longer a creature. If the effect's duration ends (you lose control of Rubinia Soulsinger or Rubinia Soulsinger is untapped), then control of the permanent goes back to the player who last controlled that permanent before that effect applied.
