Interactions with Abundance

Asked by bushido_man96 6 years ago

I have read that when Abundance interacts with Sylvan Library, it replaces the draw, and therefore you don't have to pay 4 life per car and may get all three of the cards from the draw.

How would it interact with Greater Good? If I sac a 5/5 elemental to Greater Good to draw five cards, but instead activate Abundances ability to replace each of the draws, then would I still have to discard three cards to satisfy Greater Good?

If it is a replacement effect, then it sounds like I could get away with taking all five cards and not having to discard, unless I'm way wrong, which I very well could be.

Thanks for the help.

Sylvan Library's text reads "for each of those cards" referring to cards drawn by the Library. Since you didn't draw any cards you can't put "those cards" back.

Greater Good states "discard 3 cards". You still have to discard 3 cards.

I like to think that the important part of Sylvan Library that Abundance bypasses is "choose two cards in your hand drawn this turn". Since no cards were drawn no cards can be chosen. But the end product is the same. Greater Good simply tells you to discard cards instead of performing an operation on cards you drew.

Note that Abundance's ability is not an activated ability; it's a replacement effect. As such, you can't activate it. You can choose to apply it (because it's optional), but this doesn't use the stack, and effects that care about activated abilities won't consider Abundance.
