Interaction between Goblin Grenade and Mogg Fanatic/Fanatic Firebrand

Asked by a1000@ 5 years ago

I've been testing out a budget Goblin Deck i'm working on and before playing it against my friends I want to know if this interaction is allowed so here's the scenario. I have either a Mogg Fanatic or Fanatical Firebrand on the battlefield and a Goblin Grenade in my hand, which I decide to play. Upon sacrificing the Mogg Fanatic/Fanatical Firebrand in order to meet the casting conditions of Goblin Grenade do I also end up activating the ability of the Mogg Fanatic/Fanatical Firebrand as well or not. If your having trouble understanding what i'm asking please tell me.

No, you only get the effect of Goblin Grenade.

Everything listed before the " : " in an activated ability is the cost to activate it. Paying the cost for casting one spell or activating one ability doesn't also pay the cost for a different spell or ability. You have to pay the costs separately. Just like you can't use a single to cast two Fanatical Firebrands at the same time, you can't sacrifice just one Firebrand both to cast Goblin Grenade and activate the Firebrand's ability simultaneously.

For what it's worth, if you want it both ways, try sacrificing Goblin Arsonist or Mudbutton Torchrunner to Goblin Grenade!
