if u give a manland a +1/+1 counter will it stay on after end step for the next time i activate it

for example if i use Hunt the Weak on an activated Treetop Village the next tim i make it a creature will it be 3/3 or 4/4

The counter will stay on it.
While it's not a creature, the counter won't -do- anything, but it'll be there.
