If I splice Spiritual Visit onto Ribbons of the Reikai, do I get an extra card from the spirit token?

Asked by SirupyTuna 5 years ago

I came across this deck and thought it would be fun to play: https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/4-color-pauper-spirits-yes-this-is-a-deck/

I'm just not sure about the intricacies of the splice mechanic. If I splice Spiritual Visit onto Ribbons of the Reikai, do I get an extra card from the spirit token created by Spiritual Visit's effect?

Splice adds the effect to the end of the spell and instructions are followed in the order they are printed. So you will draw a card for each spirit and then create the token. This means you will not draw for the spirit created by the splice.

702.46b You can’t choose to use a splice ability if you can’t make the required choices (targets, etc.) for that card’s instructions. You can’t splice any one card onto the same spell more than once. If you’re splicing more than one card onto a spell, reveal them all at once and choose the order in which their instructions will be followed. The instructions on the main spell have to be followed first
