If I cascade from and X card like Blue sun Zenith what will happen?

Asked by MoonTurtle7 7 years ago

Ok so what I wanna know is, can I cascade with an "X" cost counting what I paid for "X"? For example I use "Blue Sun Zenith" which is 3 Blue + "X" and I pay 4 mana, making X=4. Does it count as 7 mana, or still 3 mana to cascade from?

You can use double square brackets around a card's name to link it. It's the easiest way to make sure everyone reading your question understands what's going on: Blue Sun's Zenith, and let's assume either Maelstrom Nexus or Yidris, Maelstrom Wielder

In your example the Blue Sun's Zenith with X=4 will have a converted mana cost (CMC) of 7. In most circumstances, an in a card's mana cost counts as 0 for the purposes of calculating its CMC. However, when the spell is on the stack the symbol will instead count as whatever value you chose for X as you cast the spell.
