If Deathrender is attached to a creature which dies, do you have to pay the mana cost of the new creature to activate it's ability?

Deathrender has an ability which allows you to attach it to a new creature (from your hand) when the creature it WAS attached to dies, however I was wondering whether you have to pay the mana cost of the new creature?

No. Deathrender 's ability instructs you to put the creature card onto the battlefield. It does not instruct you to cast it or pay any costs, so you don't.

No, "you may put a card from your hand into play (/onto the battlefield)" means put it into play for free.

The downside of this is if your creature has X in it's mana cost, X is 0. Sorry Primordial Hydra .

Thank you! And as for Primordial Hydra it would still survive because deathrender gives it +2/+2 anyway :) but thanks for your advice everyone, it's a good help. I'm definitely going to add some more Deathrender s to my decks now, why wouldn't you?
