Hushwing Gryff stopping Phyrexian Revoker

Asked by Sabbath91 9 years ago

Would a Hushwing Gryff already in play stop the ability of Phyrexian Revoker that's entering the battlefield?

No. Triggered abilities (the ones that Hushwing Gryff stops) contain "when" "whenever" or "at" and go onto the stack and then resolve.

Phyrexian Revoker's "name a card" ability is an effect which happens as the creature is entering the battlefield (before any 'whenever a creature enters the battlefield' type triggered abilities would trigger though they'll be stopped by the Gryff)

To clarify, Phyrexian Revoker's ability is a replacement effect that modifies how Phyrexian Revoker enters the battlefield. It's not a triggered ability, and it doesn't use the stack. Remember that triggered abilities begin with "At," "When," or "Whenever."

Hushwing Gryff's ability can only apply to triggered abilities that would trigger when a creature enters the battlefield. Because Phyrexian Revoker has no triggered abilities, it doesn't get shut down.
