How would Winter Orb and Hokori, Dust Drinker work together?
Asked by ferretersmith 9 years ago
My guess is Hokori, Dust Drinker 's first ability would negate the ability to untap even the one land that Winter Orb allows. Then all you would be left with is the one Hokori, Dust Drinker 's second ability allows. Is this correct?
Also, assuming this is two headed giant would Hokori, Dust Drinker 's second ability allow both teammates to untap two lands?

You are correct that Hokori, Dust Drinker
effectively makes Winter Orb
irrelevant.
For your second question, see the following rule: 810.5. With the exception of life total and poison counters, a teams resources (cards in hand, mana, and so on) are not shared in the Two-Headed Giant variant. Teammates may review each others hands and discuss strategies at any time. Teammates cant manipulate each others cards or permanents.
Lands aren't a shared resource in Two-Headed Giant, so both players get to untap one land each.

I know lands aren't shared but the two headed giant rule that concerns me is "Effects that trigger at the beginning of [each/your] step or phase will trigger once during that step or phase. Effects that trigger at the beginning of each [player's/opponent's] step or phase will trigger twice at the beginning of that step or phase once for each player on the team."

The part of that rule you are confused about is saying that Hokori, Dust Drinker will trigger twice, once for each player allowing that player to untap 1 land. So at the beginning of team AB's upkeep 2 Hokori, Dust Drinker triggers go on the stack. One allows Player A to untap pne of their lands and has no effect on Player B. The other allows Player B to untap one of their lands and has no effect on Player A.
