How is a source defined with Hedron-Field Purists?

I was playing in a casual little tournament at my LGS and I played a Hedron-Field Purists against a guy that had mostly little creatures. I got it to level 5. When he swung at me, he claimed that I simply would prevent damage from the all of the creatures combined (like he was swinging at me with a bunch of 1/1s and 2/2s for 14 and said it would be reduced to 12). I thought it reduced damage from each creature by 2, but he could be right that a 'source' is defined as a player. I didn't really feel like trying to argue my point across because I was winning and it sounded sort of plausible. It doesn't really matter if I was right, because I ended up winning anyways, but I would like to know for future reference. So is damage reduced from each creature or just overall from the player?

No, each source is a source. Attacking you with 10 creatures? Those are 10 sources of damage.

If they all had 2 or less power, a level 5+ Hedron-field Purist would prevent all of that damage.

A source is any object. So in this case there were a bunch of sources. And object is anything that exists. So a creature is an object, a creature is an object and a token is an object and a spell is an object. So in this case Hedron-Field Purists would prevent 2 damage from each of the 1/1s and 2/2s so you wouldn't take any damage. I believe there is a way a player can be a source but can't think of it off the top of my head.
