how does vastwood hydra interact with doubling season?

Vastwood Hydra i mean specifically the part after it dies...i know DS doubles the counters it enters with but does it also double the counters when you re/distribute them, i only ask because it uses the words "of equal" in reference to the counters being distributed in the the text, and i dont know if that overrides the doubling effect? thanks in advance.

The doubling effect is a replacement effect that modifies the number of counters being placed on a creature.

When the hydra dies, say it had 5 counters on it. You distribute those 5 counters to other creatures you control, and then they will be doubled when actually placed on the chosen creatures.
