How does Portcullis interact with enchantment creatures?

Asked by scruffythej 9 years ago

If I play Portcullis, and then my opponent plays an enchantment creature (like Erebos, God of the Dead), does Erebos, God of the Dead get exiled when it enters the battlefield if it not a creature yet. Also, what happens when I control one creature and my opponent controls Erebos, God of the Dead, and then they play a creature spell that then makes Erebos, God of the Dead a creature, does the creature they play get exiled?

If your opponent's devotion to black is less than five, then Erebos, God of the Dead isn't a creature when it enters the battlefield. Therefore, Portcullis's ability won't trigger for it.

In the second scenario, Portcullis's ability will trigger because Erebos, God of the Dead becomes a creature concurrently with the other creature entering the battlefield.

Same thing for Ghostblade Eidolon. If you cast as an aura, it wouldn't trigger and if it separates and turns into a creature itself, would not trigger Portcullis.

Thanks for the great answers! Portcullis is such a tricky card.
