how does brood keeper interact with ordeals?

Asked by turtur 9 years ago

okay lets say i have Brood Keeper in play and have 3 counters on it from Ordeal of Heliod i sacrifice Ordeal of Heliod and then next turn i play an Ordeal of Purphoros how does this work? is the red ordeal sacrificed immediately? do i get the free lighting bolt? and most importantly do i get the dragon token?

No, the new ordeal isn't sacrificed until you attack.

Have a close look at it's ability. It can only trigger when you attack.

What's more, it will put a fourth +1/+1 counter on your creature.

And yes, you will get the 2/2 dragon too.

All 3 of your questions can be answered by understanding how the ordeals work.

The ordeals have 2 abilities. The first one triggers on attack and puts a 1/1 counter on the enchanted creature. After this it checks if there are 3 or more counters on the creature and then sacrifices the aura if there are. The second ability triggers when the aura is sacrificed for any reason and has the stated effect.

so the answers to your questions are:

  • The red ordeal is sacrificed when the creature attacks and after it puts a counter on the creature if there are 3 or more counters.

  • You get the effect whenever the Ordeal is sacrificed for any reason.

  • You get a dragon when your ordeal becomes attached to the Brood Keeper
