How Do Multiple "End of Turn" Effects Stack?

Asked by Sousaphonist 8 years ago

If you have multiple Upkeep effects, you're allowed to order them however you want (such as observing Mind Unbound before Venser's Journal so you gain more life), is it the same with EOT effects? For example, let's say I have Drumhunter out and the only creature I have with power 5 or greater would lose it at EOT (like, say, an Essence Warden that's under the effect of a kicked Vines of Vastwood). Can I say that Drumhunter's effect would go first, before my other creature de-powers?

Secondary question: if I draw a card due to an EOT effect that would put my over my hand limit, do I still have to discard down to the limit?

First, any time you control multiple triggered abilities that have triggered since the last time a player received priority, you put those abilities onto the stack in the order of your choosing the next time a player would get priority. This means that you'll always get to choose the order of abilities that trigger simultaneously as long as you control those abilities.

Note, however, that "until end of turn" effects don't wear off until the cleanup step, which comes after the end step. Also, they don't wear off as part of a triggered ability. They just end when the cleanup step begins (normally, players don't get priority at all during the cleanup step).

Same with discarding. The active player discards down to his or her maximum hand size during the cleanup step, after the end step.

So you'll get your Drumhunter draw, but you'll have to discard down if it puts you over.
