How do Changeling Tribal Instants work?

Asked by Quickspell 4 years ago

Shields of Velis Vel , Nameless Inversion , Ego Erasure , and Crib Swap all have changeling. What does the mean? How can an Instant have a(ll) creature type(s)?

If I have a card saying "Whenever a Zombie enters the battlefield, target player loses 1 life.", do these Instants cause that card to trigger?

Tribal instants and sorceries, like the ones with changeling or All Is Dust for Eldrazi, are instants and sorceries that also have a creature type, but are not creatures. This means that you could use From Beyond to find All Is Dust, as it is an Eldrazi, but you can't use Worldly Tutor to find it because All Is Dust not a creature.

Instants and sorceries go straight from the stack to the graveyard, and never enter the battlefield. This means it won't trigger abilities that trigger when a creature of a certain type enters the battlefield. However, if the ability was "Whenever you cast a Zombie spell, target player loses 1 life.", the ability would be triggered by Shields of Velis Vel or any of the other changeling instants.
