Help a newbie with some cards questions.

Asked by Gzuis 9 years ago

1- The Aggressive Mining . I can still put those lands on the field with Burnished Hart or other sorcery?

2- Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth how it works? If i have it on field, I can add (Black 'plus' other), (Black 'or' other)?

3- Cards like Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord and Squelching Leeches they have the same interpretation? And the only thing that changes it is the pre-determined power and toughness?

4- Chandra, Pyromaster ''You may cast the copies without paying their mana costs''. What happens if i cast a card with X in the cost? can I still pay the cost of X? or the card is gone?

Don't post "compilation" questions. If you have multiple unrelated questions, ask each one in a separate thread.

1: Yes. Playing a land is a special action. Putting a land onto the battlefield via a spell or ability does not use up this special action, and it isn't considered playing a land.

2: Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth adds the basic land type Swamp to every land on the battlefield. Those lands all gain ": Add to your mana pool." You can only activate one ability at a time, and you must pay each ability's cost individually, so you can only tap the land for one of its mana abilities.

3: No. Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord has a static ability that functions only on the battlefield. In all other zones, it's a 2/2. Squelching Leeches has a static characteristic-defining ability (CDA) that functions in all zones and at all times. Squelching Leeches 's power and toughness are always equal to the number of Swamps you control, no matter what zone Squelching Leeches is in.

4: If a card has in its mana cost, you can only choose a value for X if you pay its mana cost. Casting something "without paying its mana cost" is an alternate cost, and you can only pay one alternate cost -or- the casting cost for a spell. Because Chandra, Pyromaster 's ability specifies that you can only cast the copies if you cast them without paying their mana costs, you can't choose a value for X because you can't pay the mana cost.
