Guard Gomazoa vs trample

Asked by ChemoorVodka 6 years ago

Title pretty much says it all, what happens if Guard Gomazoa blocks a creature with trample that has more then 3 power?I am pretty sure it would stop it but want to be sure.

All the damage above 3 will go over to the defending player, unless the attacking player wants to assign damage in an unusual way.

Trample affects how the attacking player is allowed to assign combat damage. As long as they assign at least lethal damage to all the blockers, they can assign whatever's left over to the attacking player. The definition of "lethal damage" is either an amount of damage equal to or greater than the creature's toughness (taking into account any damage marked on it from earlier in the turn) or 1+ damage from a source with deathtouch. It doesn't take into account any other effects that would increase or decrease the amount of damage that would actually be dealt after assignment. In your example the attacking player is only required to assign 3 damage to Guard Gomazoa (or more if they really want to for some reason) and can assign the rest to the defending player.
