Gods Willing interactions with Bestow

Asked by Onyxio 9 years ago

Example: Bestow Eidolon of Countless Battles onto Fabled Hero , then to keep him alive from a burn spell, I cast Gods Willing on Fabled Hero . Of course Eidolon of Countless Battles will fall of the Fabled Hero , but do my non-heroic counters stay on it?

I have checked the rulebook, but still confused.

Why would eidolon drop off? if its a burn spell, it would most likely be red...so eidilon will be unaffected. Also, im pretty sure eidilon is safe to stay bestowed as fabled hero was enchanted prior to having protection (if you were to pick white), so it would be unaffected

Slightly right Khanye. If he declares pro white anything white enchanting the creature will fall off. If it is any other color, then the enchantment will stay and give protection from insert color to Fabled Hero

Protection prevents DEBT (Damage, Enchanting/Equipment, Blocking, Targeting). If you named white for Gods Willing Eidolon of Countless Battles would fall off, because it's enchanting (or targeting, if its on the stack yet) the Fabled Hero .

Your +1/+1 counters would stay on, Protection doesn't interact with counters on permanents directly.

Greatsword and UmbrotheUmbreon are correct about how protection and counters work, but neither seem to have answered your question about "non-heroic counters". Eidolon of Countless Battles does not grant any counters to the creature, it just increases the enchanted creature's power and toughness. Power and toughness changes are only "counters" if the effect giving the bonus says so, which the Eidolon doesn't. If you give the Fabled Hero protection from white with Gods Willing , the Hero will get a +1/+1 counter (from heroic) and then immediately after Gods Willing resolves the Eidolon will fall off the Hero and become a creature, removing the buff from the hero.

Giving a creature protection will never remove actual +1/+1 counters from that creature, but it can remove an Aura (such as the bestowed Eidolon) which is increasing the creature's power and toughness.

GreatSword, sorry. I'd assumed that TappedOut would recognize the capitalization difference for determining the link. Apparently that Fabled Hero has a pretty... uh... decent... no, no I can't give it too much credit... a pretty cool-looking sword from M12. :P

Used to it, no big deal. Users can read my description quick if they wanna see my thoughts on it.

Man I wished I would have came back to this question sooner! Yeah you all are right Eidolon of Countless Battles wouldn't drop off unless it was protection from white duh! Which I see now that Fabled Hero s non-heroic "counters" would drop off if the Eidolon drops off because the Eidolon card doesn't specifically say counter it just says +1/1. Fair enough, thanks for the answers folks!
