Goblin assassin ability resolving

Asked by leoallil 8 years ago

I play Goblin Assassin. It triggers on itself entering the battlefield. I flip the coin and it comes up heads. My opponent flips the coin and it comes up tails. Is he allowed to use Heliod, God of the Sun to create a token and sacrifice it?

In my opinion he is not because he flips the coin when the ability is resolving and he cannot activate his ability during the resolution of my ability.

You're correct for the reason you give. Once a spell or ability begins resolving, players lose priority until the end of the resolution process. Your opponent would have to preempt the resolution by creating a token in order to keep his or her other creatures safe. He or she won't know at that time whether he'll or she'll have to sacrifice a creature.
