When a card adds mana to your pool do you add more lands? What do u do? (Im a new player) Generator Servant

you treat it as though you've tapped a land for mana.

Basic lands, such as Forest have an implicit mana ability. for example forest has the ability:

Add G to your mana pool

Forests may have that line, but Wizards got rid of it after a while, and simplified it down to a simple green mana symbol.

While lands produce mana, 'mana' does not necessarily mean 'land'. Lands aren't the only source of mana in Magic; take Elvish Mystic for example, it has that line: : add to your mana pool, meaning if you tap it, you get 1 green mana, which you can use on spells.

So no card represents the mana it's just invisible?

Yeah, you have to just keep track of the mana on your own. In most cases it doesn't really matter because you spend the mana on a spell immediately, but if you don't, you have to keep track of it. Note that your mana pool empties at the end of steps and phases.

But yes, the way basic lands work is that having a basic land type (not the type "Basic", the subtyes "Forest", "Mountain", etc.) implicitly have the ability "Tap: Add C to your mana pool" where C is the appropriate color of mana for that land. So generator servant acts the same way, adding 2 colorless mana to your pool.

Alright, time for my favorite explanation of how the mana system works.

Lets pretend mana is candy. There are 6 types of candy: white , blue , black , red , green , and colorless .

If you can tap a Forest to add a to your mana pool. You can also tap Elvish Mystic to add to your mana pool. Generator Servant can add two colorless () you your mana pool.

So, lets say we want to cast Eidolon of Blossoms . We need 4 candies to summon it, two of which MUST be green. So we used a Forest , an Elvish Mystic , and a Generator Servant to add to our mana pool, now the Eidolon takes those four candies as the cost to summon it.

Now, if we have any candies left floating around at the end of a step of phase, they go away. No way could you resist eating them for that long.

And, smash10101, until recently, if you had candy out that you didn't use to bribe creatures into helping you (summoning) when you ate them at the end of a phase, they gave you diabetes. But now there's no more mana-burn. ;)

yep, but no need to mention things like that. it could be confusing and doesn't matter to new players since they got rid of that rule.

They sure did. I just couldn't miss an opportunity to compare tapped lands to insulin spikes. ;)
