Flamerush Rider and Scourge of the Throne

Asked by kanofudo 9 years ago

These two have the possibility of making a ridiculous infinite attack combo. BUT Scourge of the Throne says "Whenever Scourge of the Throne attacks for the first time each turn"....

I understand that copying the scourge with the rider the token will not trigger as it enters attacking. But does it count as "attacking for the first time this turn"?

Scourge of the Throne's ability doesn't check for "attacking." It checks for "attacks." There's a subtle difference:

An attacking creature is simply a creature that is attacking this combat.

A creature attacks when it is declared as an attacking creature as a turn-based action during the declare attackers step.

Only creatures that are declared as attackers have attacked, but any creature can be an attacking creature if it was caused to attack somehow else.

tl;dr: The ability won't trigger because the copy is put into play attacking. It is an attacking creature, but it never attacked, so "when ~ attacks" abilities won't trigger.

Damn it all. Thanks though. I've been trying to go infinite with this guy for a while but the best I've got is the dragon, splinter twin minotaur from born of the gods, and the ogre who lets you pay life for red mana lol

As long as you have haste and you stack the triggers properly you can attack the player with the most life infinite times or until you're the player with the most life. You untap the token(s) when you resolve the ability from Scourge of the Throne and the new token(s) attacks for the first time during each of the additional combat phases.

Only necro'ing this by like 18 months(!) but maybe better than asking elsewhere...

If I use something like Flameshadow Conjuring along with Scourge of the Throne and say, Fervor do I stack up extra combat phases or just get the one extra after this one?
