fanatical firebrand and Goblin Grenade

Asked by Brent90 5 years ago

okay. i play Fanatical Firebrand Haste, tap, sacrifice Fanatical Firebrand: it deals one damage to player or creature.

Goblin Grenade As additional cost to cast Goblin Grenade, sacrifice a Goblin.

now if i use fanatical firebrands ability by sacrificing it and dealing one damage will that pay the extra cost for Goblin Grenade to be played?? or would i have to sacrifice a totally different Goblin to pay for its cost?

You'll have to sacrifice another goblin if you want to do both things. Paying the cost for casting one spell or activating one ability doesn't also pay the cost for a different spell or ability. You have to pay the costs separately. Just like you can't use a single to cast two Fanatical Firebrands at the same time, you can't sacrifice just one Firebrand both to activate its own ability and to pay the additional cost to cast Goblin Grenade.

Just to add one bit. Paying costs doesn't use the stack, meaning you can't sacrifice the Fanatical Firebrand in response to the him, becoming a fuel for Goblin Grenade. As for the thing you wanted to do in the last paragraph it would have to be worded as "whenever you sacrifice a goblin deal X damage to any target" and as such would have to be printed on a permanent and not a instant/sorcery.
