Exalted and Kaalia

Asked by KingofBarcelona 10 years ago

If a creature on the field has exalted and I attack with just Kaalia of the Vast, which ability triggers first? Does Kaalia get the bonus from exalted or is it cancelled by Kaalia putting a creature on the field that is attacking.

Kaalia of the Vast . Akrasan Squire (as an example). Please link all card names.

Both Kaalia of the Vast and, as an example creature with exalted, Akrasan Squire trigger at the same time: When attackers are declared. Since you control both triggers, you choose which order they go on the stack (and, so, in which order they resolve). You can give Kaalia the exalted boost before cheating a creature into play.

Note that even if you cheat the creature in first, Kaalia will still get the boost. The exalted trigger is already on the stack, and it doesn't "double check" to make sure that there is still only one attacker. Only one creature attacked this combat; the fact that there happen to now be two creatures attacking is irrelevant.

So, essentially, you can do them in either order and in most cases it won't matter which one happens first (it may if the creature you cheat into play has an enters trigger or if somebody else interferes with an instant).
