Enter the infinite and library of leng

Asked by Quinnagin27 7 years ago

So Library of Leng says if you would discard a card due to and effect it goes on top of your library so if you discard is that technically and effect? So if I were to use Enter the Infinite and then discard it wouldn't it just go on to my library?

It's not very clear what you're asking.

Enter the Infinite doesn't instruct you to discard anything. The one card you put back is already supposed to be put back on top of your library.

Both Library of Leng and Enter the Infinite also grant you an unlimited hand size, so you wouldn't normally have to discard anyway.

I think you have some typos in your question, but I will try to answer.

Library of Leng's discard ability is a replacement effect. On top of having no maximum hand size, whenever you are required to discard a card from your hand, for whatever reason, you may choose to either put it in the graveyard or on the top of your library. Note that this effect does not apply to actions that require you to discard cards from your library or when you must discard to pay a cost.

From Library of Leng's Gatherer:

  • The ability replaces the normal discard action with a discard action that puts the card on the library instead of the graveyard.

You can read all the specific rules on Library of Leng here: http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=202455

If you were to use Enter the Infinite, you'd draw all remaining cards in your library, placed one card back on top of your library, and the "end of turn" passes, you still have no maximum hand size because of Library of Leng; you do not have to discard anything unless an effect is played that says otherwise. Any discard effects that do occur, Library of Leng would again allow you to choose to put them in the graveyard or the top of your library.

Do note that you can loose the game if your library is empty of cards and you are made to draw a card for whatever reason.

Quick nitpick: there's no such thing as discarding from your library. A discard must be from the hand to the graveyard (unless a replacement effect says otherwise). Effects that put cards from the top of a library into a graveyard have no formal name, but are typically called "mill" effects after Millstone.

Well see I know I would draw my whole hand I'm trying to figure out a combo that would let me use Enter the Infinite to draw my hand then use endless swarm so I would then put out that many snakes but then to put my hand back into my library that just seems like it would workGearNoir

It seems like you only asked half the question, then.

Library of Leng's replacement effect can be applied whenever an effect instructs you to discard a card.

If you had something like One with Nothing, you would be able to discard to the top of your library if you wanted to just put everything back. Otherwise, between the no max hand size and no effects trying to force you to discard, you're stuck with all but one card in hand.

Quinnagin27: Not quite what you asked, but as I understand it you're trying to figure out a way to continue getting snakes from Endless Swarm without decking yourself. Obstinate Familiar or Abundance or Necropotence or any other draw-preventing effect can do that.

Daedalus19876 I think I figured it out using Enter the Infinite and Upwelling I will be able to afford both Enter the Infinite and Endless Swarm. When before I have casted Endless Swarm i will then cast Quicksilver Amulet since I won't be able to cast anymore and creatures I need I will just use quicksilver since it isn't casting then using ulomag I will then discard it thus shuffling my graveyard into my library not decking myself

That's a very roundabout way of doing things, but I guess it does work.
