Ensoul Artifact

Asked by Death_The_Kid 9 years ago

I was curious what happens if someones uses Chained to the Rocks on a Darksteel Citadel that is enchanted with Ensoul Artifact . Does the Land and enchantment go or does just the land? Also the land is now not a creature so is it exiled still?

Also side question Ensoul Artifact on Izzet Keyrune when it deals damage when enchanted do you still get to draw and discard a card?

To your first question: The Darksteel Citadel would be exiled until Chained to the Rocks leaves the battlefield. The Ensoul Artifact would be put into its owner's graveyard the moment the Citadel leaves the battlefield. When the Citadel comes back, Ensoul Artifact will not come back with it, so it will not be a creature.

To your second question: Yes. Ensoul Artifact makes the Keyrune into a 5/5 creature in addition to its other types, but it doesn't take away any of its abilities. The keyrune doesn't care what is making it a creature.

Chained to the Rocks enchants a Mountain controlled by the same player who controls Chained to the Rocks . The ETB ability targets and exiles only a target creature. Any Auras attached to that creature will remain on the battlefield and will therefore be put into their owner's graveyard as a state-based action.

Chained to the Rocks 's triggered ability only cares about whether the target is a creature while the ability is on the stack. What happens to that object's types after it's no longer a permanent is irrelevant. Even if the object isn't a creature in exile, it will remain in exile until the exile effect's duration expires (which is when Chained to the Rocks leaves the battlefield.

Second question: yes. The loot ability is a triggered ability that triggers whenever Izzet Keyrune deals combat damage to a player. It doesn't matter how Izzet Keyrune became a creature.
