Elvish Hexhunter vs Blood Moon

Asked by Andromedus 7 years ago

If my opponent plays Blood Moon and I have an Elvish Hexhunter in play, can I tap a non-basic land such as Savannah before the Blood Moon resolves, and then once it resolves use the Hexhunter to destroy it? Or does the mana drain from my mana pool at the same time the Blood Moon resolves, making it so I cannot play the Hexhunter's ability?

I know this is very basic but the mana pool rules have changed a lot since I played back in the 90's and I'm trying to figure out a good G/W answer to Blood Moon without building my entire deck/mana base around a card I might not ever see...

Mana is emptied from players' mana pools at the end of each step and phase. Mana pools are not emptied after something resolves.

You can float mana to respond once the spell resolves.

Ok, thank you for the help. This is what I thought but I wanted to be sure.

Yes, you can float mana between the casting of blood moon and its resolution.

Your mana pool will drain as you move from one step or phase of a turn to another. For example from upkeep to draw steps, from main phase to start of combat, or from start of combat to declare attacker step.

However, before any change in phase or step, priority is passed to each player. So when your opponent casts blood moon, you may add green to your mana pool. After blood moon resolves, before the step or phase changes (and your mana pool is drained) you will have priority and be able to use the g in your mana pool to activate abilities.
