Elusive Tormentor in an Edgar Markov EDH deck

Asked by Weekend_Magic_NC 5 years ago

I was brewing up a Vampire tribal deck using Edgar Markov as a commander. I was hoping to use Elusive Tormentor  Flip in that deck. But if I'm not way off base the flip side of Elusive Tormentor  Flip is considered blue. BUT the mana symbol doesn't show up on the card. So...Can I play it in the deck?

No. Color identity includes all colors the card can be, like multicolored cards (Hostage Taker), double-face cards (like the aforementioned Elusive Tormentor  Flip), and off-color activated abilities (Harbor Bandit) all have the same color identity (in this case U/B). That said, talk to your playgroup and see if it’s ok with them

First, there is a rules Q&A section of this site for questions regarding rules, cards, or card interactions. Unlike the other forum sections, you can “mark as answer” a response to help keep things organised. I moved this for you.

Moving on to answer, I wanted to clarify ERoss8’s response.

To determine colour identity, you look at two things:

  1. The mana symbols on the card, except those in reminder text (such as in extort). This includes the mana cost and any abilities, including mana abilities.

  2. The colour indicator - the blue dot next to “creature” on the back face of the card (or on the gatherer for older cards).
