Edh commander and incorporating colors

Asked by ramonthebadass 8 years ago

So ive wanting to make an edh/commander deck using Daghatar the Adamant but when looking at its text box i saw green and black. I know for edh/commander that all mana symbols in cmc cost and text box count towards its color identity. My question is can i make a edh/commander deck with him using only white cards as if he were mono white or do i have to incorporate other spells that are his colors?

Dagathar's color identity is WBG, which means if you use him as your commander, cards you use in that deck may not have a blue or black color identity. If you choose to play with only white cards, that's fine.

I of course meant "cards you use may not have a blue or red color identity".

Just some nitpicking regarding the phraseology of the question:

"CMC cost" is redundant. CMC means "converted mana cost." This is the colorless value of all mana symbols in a card's mana cost. It is not the same as a card's mana cost, which is the exact symbols printed in the upper right corner of the card (and therefore counting the colors of those symbols). Color identity uses the mana cost; CMC is always just a number and has no color associated with it.

Color identity also excludes reminder text, which is any information in parentheses. Reminder text is in a card's text box.
