EDH Color Identity and Spelljack

Asked by bluetigerreed 7 years ago

Say my commander is Grand Arbiter Augustin IV. Being the evil mtg player I am, I use Spelljack to counter my opponent's Avenger of Zendikar. Am I able to still cast Avenger of Zendikar although it is outside of my commander's color identity?

Color identity only applies when you build the deck and produce mana. Stolen spells during play, such as the one you mentioned, can be played even outside your commander's color.

@darkmatter32x: Note that color identity no longer matters during mana production. You can now produce mana outside of your commander's color identity.

@ Epochalyptik Thanks for the update, I still know that when mana is produced outside the commander's color identity, it becomes colorless instead.
