Double Strike, Exalted, and Pump Spells

Asked by DemMeowsephs 4 years ago

Let's say I attack Rafiq of the Many ALONE. Then, I buff him with Giant Growth . Then he has exalted so he gets +1 +1. The he has double strike, so his power (3) , giant growth's 3, and exalted's 1 make 7. I double the seven making fourteen commander damage. Is that correct? Does double strike double the exalted as well? Does it even double the giant growth?

Yeah, correct.

Double Strike means that it gets to assign its combat damage twice (once in first strike damage phase, once in regular combat damage phase), so it functionally doubles its attacking strength. It gets to hit twice with its total power even if that power has a temporary or permanent buff or debuff. So if it has +4/+4 from various effects until end of turn, yes, it will get to hit for a total of 14 (7 in first strike, 7 in regular). It's all combat damage, so it's all commander damage if it connects with a player.

The triggered ability on Exalted triggers when a creature is being declared as a blocker alone, and this normally only happens once per combat phase. It doesn't get declared as an attacker twice because it has Double Strike, so it won't get an additional +1/+1 before it moves from first trike damage to regular damage.
