Domri Rade and Lightning Strike, how you work

Asked by Apex_Promethean 9 years ago

If my opponent plays Domri Rade , and he plusses him, can I in response to the plus Lightning Strike him before the loyalty point is placed?

No, Loyalty abilities are activated abilities, and the activated cost is to add or subtract the listed amount of Loyalty.

He plays Domri Rade and retains priority. He activates the +1 ability by adding 1 Loyalty (putting it to 4 loyalty) and the ability goes onto the stack. He passes priority to you. You play Lightning Strike targeting him. It goes onto the stack. Lightning Strike resolves, and as it would deal damage to the opponent, you redirect it to Domri Rade, who loses 3 loyalty, leaving him at 1.

@Apex_Promethean: It's important to remember that w/ the loyalty abilities of planeswalkers, adding and removing the counter(s) is the cost of the ability, not an effect, and cannot be interrupted.
