Does Zur the Enchanter's "put" mechanic go on the stack, so if I bounce him out of play the enchantment fizzles?

I'm trying to see what options I have against Zur the Enchanter 's annoying mechanic of putting enchantments into play. What I'd like to do is play something like Swords to Plowshares in response to his ability, thereby causing my opponents Diplomatic Immunity to go to the graveyard.

Zur the Enchanter 's ability does use the stack, just like any other triggered ability. However, abilities on the stack exist independently of their source, so exiling Zur before it resolves will do nothing. However, you can simply use Swords to Plowshares on Zur before he attacks to stop his ability from triggering in the first place.

That won't stop his ability from resolving.

His ability is a triggered ability (they always begin with "when/whenever/at") so it uses the stack. Once an object goes on the stack, it is independent of its source, and will remain there until it either resolves or is somehow removed (a la Stifle ).

You would have to cast Swords to Plowshares before Zur attacks. Once he attacks, its too late to prevent the effect. You can still exile him, but his effect will stay on the stack and resolve. You also would have to exile him before the opponent chooses their card, as its all part of the same effect. So, you could either cast Swords before he attacks and exile him, or cast Swords in response to attacks, but before your opponent searches his library. He will still be able to search his library, but Zur will be exiled. This kind of defeats what you're trying to do though, as the opponent will just pick a different enchantment that doesn't require a creature (something like Detention Sphere ).
