Does Gigantiform + Infinite Reflection + Thragtusk work?

Asked by SpartanCEL 9 years ago

Let's say I cast Thragtusk then enchant it with Gigantiform then enchant it with Infinite Reflection.

Would all my other creatures because 8/8's or just 5/3's?

Would I gain 5 life for each other creature already on the battlefield?

If one of the other creatures died would it come back as a 8/8 (or 5/3 depending on the answer to 1) and I'd gain 5 life?

Is there other problems that could arise from this combo that I'm not asking that you think should be addressed?

Thanks for your time I'm working on a Biovisionary deck and I need a back up plan. Trust me just don't question the logic until you see the final deck lol. I'm going to bed so I will check tomorrow for an answer!

First, copy effects copy only what is written on the card itself. Infinite Reflection won't count static buffs, counters, or abilities conferred by other effects when it's creating the copies. Your copies will all be 5/3s.

Second, Infinite Reflection doesn't cause your current creatures to leave the battlefield and reenter it again. Creatures you control will become copies of Thragtusk, but they won't reenter the battlefield, so their new ETB abilities won't trigger.

If a (nontoken) creature enters the battlefield for any reason, it will enter as a copy of Thragtusk, and you'll gain 5 life from its triggered ability when that triggers and resolves.

A creature can only copy the "copiable values" of another creature. From the CRT:

  • 706.2..... The copiable values are the values derived from the text printed on the object (that text being name, mana cost, color indicator, card type, subtype, supertype, rules text, power, toughness, and/or loyalty)

Basically only the stuff printed on the original object can be copied. The creatures will become basic Thragtusks. The creatures already on the battlefield won't be entering again, so their ETB ability won't trigger. Any creatures entering (including any Beast tokens made by the LTB trigger) will enter as a copy of Thragtusk.

Always check Gatherer before asking questions. A lot of cards have links to their Gatherer page if you click on the card. ;)

Creatures you control don't copy whether the enchanted creature is tapped or untapped, whether it has any counters on it, whether it has any Auras and Equipment attached to it, or any noncopy effects that have changed its power, toughness, types, color, or so on.

All of your other critters would become 5/3 Thragtusk copies.

You would not gain 5 life for the ones on the battlefield already as they won't enter the battlefield.

And if one of the other critters died, you would get a 3/3 green Beast creature token and you won't gain 5 life as Infinite Reflection states "Nontoken creatures".

I believe this is right, hope this helps

@Zeke_0: Good catch on the nontoken bit, though.

So you'll get 5/3s, and the tokens won't be affected by the ability (so they'll be the vanilla 3/3 tokens originally created by the ability). None of the creatures on the battlefield will reenter, so you won't get their ETB gain 5 abilities.
