Does The Scarab God return to hand after being reanimated?

Asked by rolfMTG 6 years ago

Say, My opponent goes to Murder my The Scarab God. In response, I play Supernatural Stamina (I wouldn't do that in a real game usually, but OK...).The god dies, Supernatural Stamina triggers and returns it to the battlefield. On death, The Scarab God's last ability will also trigger and return it to my hand at end of turn.

The question is: Would the God be put into my hand from the battlefield at end of turn? I mainly wonder because The Scarab God's trigger does not specify that it's returned from the graveyard to your hand.

I found this on Gatherer:

"If this creature dies but leaves your graveyard before the next end step, it will remain in its new zone."

So it seems like it will remain on the battlefield and not go to your hand.

TheVectornaut is correct - the card will only be returned to your hand if it's still in the graveyard.

As usual with effects like this, cards aren't tracked between zones unless for some very specific proceedings that aren't relevant here. When a card changes zones, it becomes a new object with no memory of its previous existance, and likewise, spells and abilities won't be able to find that card if it's not in the expected zone.

As you correctly said, though, the delayed triggered ability of The Scarab God is still created and will resolve as normal, however it will do nothing.
