Does the draw card fizzle if Gaea's Blessing is responded to with removing the targeted cards? ( like Ravenous Trap )

Asked by uth_matar 9 years ago

played A casts Gaea's Blessing and targets a card.player B responds with Ravenous Trap .does player A still draw a card?

No. If all of a spell's targets are illegal at the time that spell would resolve, the spell is countered by the game rules. This is often called "fizzling."

If even one of the targets is still legal, however, the spell will still resolve and do as much as it can.

No, player A does not draw a card.

since the spell had a target, and that target is gone, Gaea's Blessing is countered.

Yes, the card will be countered. When a card with that targets no longer has any legal targets it is countered instead when it tries to resolve.

As a side note, don't ask your full question in the title of the question. Try to ask it in the body.

You will still draw the card, because though Gaea's Blessing lost some targets (cards in graveyard) it's still targeting a player. Since that target hasn't been lost, it just does everything it can (namely, let its caster draw a card).

I hate being triple-ninja'd by answers that all contradict mine, but Epochalyptik, don't spells that target only fizzle if they lose all their targets? Gaea's Blessing also targets a player.

Ah, i didn't see that target player part.

Yeah that will cause it not to fizzle

@erabel I suspect that greatSword and Epoc, like me, didn't take the time to slowly and carefully read the card.

The spell has an odd tempting where it targets a player only so that it can select other targets. It's a really easy part of the spell to miss when reading the card
