Does Teysa's ability work on creatures with protection from Humans?

Asked by Sharpthrower 10 years ago

A few moments ago, I was playing a game (and winning). Then my opponent cast Teysa, Envoy of Ghosts and passed the turn. On my turn, I cast Riders of Gavony and my Humans got protection from Humans, which rendered my opponent unable to block and at one life. But now comes the problem. Teysa destroys all creatures that deal damage to its controller. Does it work when my Humans have protection from her?

Teysa is not the source of the destroy affect from a targeting perspective. She has a triggered ability on her that lets you get rid of stuff that hits you. But, assuming I am understanding this right, on your turn, you have a guy that your opponent cant block and he has one life. You will deal your combat damage to him before the destroy affect is triggered, so you still win.

To answer the root of the question, protection defends against 4 things: D.E.B.T.

D - prevents Damage

E - stops Enchantments and Equipment from being attached

B - disallows Blocking

T - disallows Targeting

The No Mercy ability on Teysa, Envoy of Ghosts don't do any of those things, so protection from any of her qualities won't save your guys.

So expanding on this if the DEBT example above is correct, then if i was to attack with say a Evil Eye of Urborg and was blocked by a pro black creature like Mirran Crusader then the ability would still destroy him even though its black?

@aloehart199: Yes. The Mirran Crusader 's protection won't prevent or prohibit anything Evil Eye of Urborg 's ability does.

So, protection from creatures disallows all creatures from blocking Teysa, Envoy of Ghosts ? I thought she just wouldn't get any damage from them if she were blocked....

@Yananas: It renders Teysa technically unblockable.

Teysa cannot be blocked, targeted by, damaged by ANY creature (target text MUST be in the ability for her to nullify it)

She is 1/2 of an Invisible Stalker
