Does Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker die with Bearer of the Heavens?

Asked by chrizzilla 9 years ago

If I activate Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker 's +1, turning him into a hasty indestructible dragon until end of turn, with Bearer of the Heavens out, and the Bearer dies, will Sarkhan survive, or will he be a planeswalker before the Bearer's ability goes off?

I guess this is really a question about if there's a difference between the end step and "end of turn".

Yes, Sarkhan will survive.

Bearer of the Heavens ' ability triggers when he dies, and gets put onto the stack at the beginning of the end step, while it is still your turn. His ability will then resolve, and blow up the world. At this point, it is still your turn so Sarkhan, being indestructible, brushes the dust off his shoulders and resumes being awesome. Then, if there is nothing else to do during the end step (Heaven forbid a second Bearer of the Heavens trigger (HAHA punny)), then the turn will end, and Sarkhan will cease to be indestructible.
