Does Rings of Brighthearth reference a permanent becomming tapped, or just the effect?

Asked by AcryiA 6 years ago

If I choose to use Rings of Brighthearth to copy the tap ability of Pyromancer's Goggles, would also having a Mana Reflection result in a total of 4 mana? If so, would all 4 mana count as being produced from the goggles, allowing 4 copies of a spell to be produced?

Pyromancer's Goggles has a mana-ability, so no, you wouldn't be able to use Rings of Brighthearth in the first place.

Is there a card that would work like this?

As you mentioned Mana Reflection does this, but that's because it functions as a replacement effect modifying the tap for mana ability. As Mana abilities do not use the stack, they are excluded (at least so far) from triggering abilities that would copy them, because it creates rules complications that Wizards has not yet decided are worth it.

Trying to create a situation where multiple cards add to the mana produced by the goggles. Is there another way to get extra mana from the ability aside from Mana Reflection?

...Copy Enchantment entering as a second Mana Reflection? This isn't exactly a common effect for the reasons I outlined. Copying the ability isn't something Wizards has given us the ability to do yet and replacing that sort of action is a rather unique thing that only Mana Reflection does as of yet. You could also tap the Pyromancer's Goggles then playing another one, losing the first to the Legend Rule, and tap the second so as to get more copying mana. Primal Amulet also offers a similar effect once if transforms, and could be copied with Vesuva without worrying about the Legend Rule.
