Does Radiant Flames + Goggles work?

Asked by IzzetMtG 7 years ago

I'm assuming Pyromancer's Goggles works the same with Radiant Flames as it does with X spells, since they are already on the stack and you are not recasting them. When doubled X for the copy is the same. Does this work the same way with Radiant Flames? Can it sweep the board for 6? It makes sense that it would, I'm just unsure exactly.

No, it would not work like that.

Converge checks to see how many different colors you put into casting said spell. The copy checks that as well, sees that you didn't actually spend any mana to cast it, and will deal 0 damage.

The key reason why it doesn't work is because a copy effect copies any choices you made while casting the spell, but in the case of Radiant Flames the value of X is determined by the spell's own effect. It's not a choice you specifically made yourself, like the X in Burn from Within, for example.
